Basil bar restaurant. Corner of paradise

Philippe Starck has signed the new Mustique Basil Bar. The small private island is located just 100 miles from the archipelago of Barbados (from which you can reach with weekend flights) and is considered one of the most exclusive tourist destinations. It is a destination definitely not for everyone, loved by Hollywood stars, celebrities and the “richest of the rich”. Those who come here for a relaxing break will visit the Basil Bar, a place that stands by the sea. After a closure that lasted more than two years, a period during which the renovation work was carried out, today the club presents itself in a completely new guise. The spaces have remained identical, but Starck has designed a completely innovative interior, with exotic suggestions and based on the use of natural materials such as rattan and wood. “Basil’s Bar is not just a bar, it is a unique place, full of history and heritage – says Starck – A place of community and shared memories, with its own, genuine soul. Renewed and relaxing, with a simple elegance and its own romanticism, the rebirth of Basil’s Bar creates a new continuity in a life-long story. Like a long lost friend with whom you feel an immediate connection. Perfect for enjoying endless conversations in front of the new open kitchen or in one of the many hide-away corners. An original institution, a destination, full of life. It is a true honor for me to have been able to play my part in this legend”. The restaurant, consisting of several “huts” and spaces where inside and outside are a continuum, can be reached and is surrounded by a walkway over the water. A small refined pier from which to observe the colorful fish during the day and illuminated by underwater lamps at night.
