Little care, great knowledge

DND BY MARTINELLI dedicates an exhibition to the C-1918 collection by Achille Castiglioni

On October 4th at the Achille Castiglioni Foundation in Milan, the historical handle manufacturing company presents a retrospective of the C-1918 collection designed by Achille Castiglioni and Gianfranco Cavaglià.

The C-1918 handle series – whose name pays homage to the year of birth of architect Castiglioni – is one of the latest projects of Achille Castiglioni and Gianfranco Cavaglià, whose long collaboration (from 1972 to 2002) led over the years to the realisation of urban scale, architectural, interior and product design projects.

From scratch to production, Castiglioni and Cavaglià have meticulously studied, designed and produced original items made with traditional methods and approaches by keeping alive the typical Castiglioni’s rejection to a consumerist production in favor of a design devoted to users’ real needs.

Ergonomy, sections and materials constituting the prototype have become the design theme of C-1918 collection, which is produced today by DND by Martinelli on concession of Giovanna and Piergiorgio Castiglioni, thanks to the drawings recovered from the Castiglioni Foundation’s archive.

The series is made by merging comfort and aesthetics in a product with a unique design: the steel handle resembles a blade, while the copper handle and cap are purely functional.

At the end of the opening scheduled on October 4th at 6 pm, it will take place a debate between Gianfranco Cavaglià and Beppe Finessi about the famous designer and the finding of his last unpublished projects.
