FIAM ITALIA: ECHO BY MARCEL WANDERS

NEWS

FIAM Italia counts on a five-decade-history of planning and production of furnishing made of curved or high-temperature fused glass, created by following both handcrafted and industrial processes that blend tradition and innovation together. Since the beginning, the company collaborates with famous international designers and architects.

The latest design-star who worked for the brand has been Marcel Wanders Studio, who designed in 2020 the Echo Collection, consisting of showcases and cupboards that owe their own shape and identity to the idea of creating a surface able to expand to the observer, both embracing and surprising him. By pushing the boundaries of artisanal and industrial processes, the Amsterdam design studio implements new glass modelling techniques in which craftsmanship and technology meet to shape the distinctive glass surface that characterizes the new fascinating and elegant proposal. Repeated geometric patterns, regular and irregular polygons that become three-dimensional by virtue of FIAM Italia’s innovative high fusion technique.

“These pieces are designed having this special glass technique and tradition in mind, and so they create a durable experience of beautyadds Creative Associate Director, Gabriele Chiave. About Echo Marcel Wanders said: “The idea behind these cabinets was to design a surface that would physically extend out to people. The relief surface gives the piece depth and meaning. With repeating patterns of very different shapes in glass on all sides, the beauty endures from every angle. Their innovative glass processes allow us to design luxurious pieces in which we can use shapes to create a sense of illusion. These series are the next example of how with FIAM, we are able to push elegance with glass and discover new places it can take us”
