BISMUT & BISMUT
BISMUT & BISMUT
Light before anything else.
Light lengthens perspectives, enhances plain but ever-changing surfaces, modulates spaces, from the most open to the most private.
Daniel and Michel Bismut are brothers, architects and have always been working together. They design from the detail of a piece of furniture to the architecture of a building. They like to work with the lines, space and materials and simplify architectural vocabulary, keeping only the bare essentials.
A year after the foundation of Bismut & Bismut’s agency in 1987, they arranged a trendy shoe shop in SoHo in New York City which propelled them to a media exposure. Project after project, Bismut & Bismut style appears: economy of architectural and decorative effect, combination of materials, shapes and a pattern of light and reflections.
Since the beginning of their career, they have been affected by architects Carlo Scarpa, Louis Kahn and Tadao Ando. First of all, they want to simplify the architectural vocabulary and focus on the essential: volumes, proportions, quest for balance.
Refusing to be classified, Michel and Daniel lead a transversal reflection through a large variety of orders of various scales. They work on different projects, such as the interior design of a luxury yacht built by San Lorenzo shipyard in Italy called “San Lorenzo by Bismut”, an office building, private residences and a collaboration with Dior for a home accessory line.
